Be Ready to Act When Seconds Count

Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in just a few minutes, often before emergency responders can arrive. Bleeding Control Essentials is a 2-hour, hands-on class at EastBay Firearms Livermore that teaches you how to recognize serious bleeding and take immediate action. Whether you carry a firearm, spend time at the range, hunt, work with tools, or simply want to be prepared for the unexpected, these are skills that can make a real difference for you, your family, or a stranger in an emergency. No medical background is needed, and you don’t need to own a firearm to attend. We start with the basics, move at a comfortable pace, and make sure every student leaves feeling capable and confident rather than overwhelmed. Many people hesitate in a real emergency simply because they don’t know what to do, and this class is built to change that. The class is just $100 per person.

What You'll Learn

You’ll learn how to quickly identify life-threatening bleeds, tell the difference between bleeding that can be managed with simple pressure and bleeding that needs immediate intervention, and decide what to do first. Your instructor will walk you through the core skills of bleeding control: applying direct pressure, using pressure dressings, packing wounds, and applying a tourniquet correctly. You’ll also learn when each method is appropriate, how to tell whether it’s working, and the common mistakes that cause them to fail, such as placing a tourniquet too loosely or in the wrong spot. Depending on the flow of the class, you can expect a mix of instruction and discussion alongside the practical skills, so you understand not only what to do but why you’re doing it.

The focus of this class is practice. You’ll work through each technique with your own hands, repeat it until it feels natural, and get direct feedback from your instructor along the way. Practicing on your own, rather than just watching a demonstration, is what builds the muscle memory you’ll need when stress is high and time is short. Class size is limited to 16 people, so every student gets real attention from the instructor and plenty of time to practice. You’ll leave knowing how to respond calmly and effectively while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive, and you’ll have a clear plan you can repeat under pressure. This class is not a substitute for professional medical care, and calling 911 should always be your first step in an emergency.
