EastBay Firearms is a family-owned gun store in Livermore, CA

Serving hunters, home defense shoppers, sport shooters, and first-time buyers from across the Tri-Valley and East Bay

Our long gun inventory changes regularly based on what's available and what's popular, so the best way to see what's currently in store is to stop by.

We typically carry rifles and shotguns from Daniel Defense, Benelli, Marlin, Browning, Mossberg, Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Henry, along with other brands as availability allows. Our selection covers most of the major long gun categories: California-compliant AR-platform rifles, AK-pattern rifles, bolt-action hunting rifles, lever-action rifles, and pump and semi-auto shotguns for home defense, hunting, and clays. Whether you're looking for your first rifle, a dedicated hunting setup, or a shotgun for the field, there's usually something worth taking a closer look at in person.

Buying a long gun in California requires a background check (DROS), a 10-day waiting period, a valid California ID, and a Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC). We offer the FSC test in-store, which takes about 20 minutes to complete and is valid for five years. If the process is new to you, our staff will walk you through each step and answer any questions along the way. For a full breakdown of California's purchase requirements, visit our How to Buy page.

California also has specific regulations on certain types of long guns, particularly semi-automatic centerfire rifles and anything the state classifies as an assault weapon. What's legal to buy and how it has to be configured can affect which rifles make it onto our wall, and we're always happy to answer questions about compliance before you commit to a purchase.

California Long Gun Regulations

California has specific rules for rifles and shotguns that go beyond the basic federal requirements. These include restrictions on certain semi-automatic configurations, magazine capacity limits, and age requirements for specific categories of long guns. The state's definition of an "assault weapon" covers certain rifles and shotguns based on features like pistol grips, flash hiders, and detachable magazines, and any long gun that falls into that category is subject to additional restrictions or outright prohibitions from dealer sale.

Semi-automatic centerfire rifles in particular have to meet California's configuration requirements to be legally sold new by a dealer, which is why you'll see most AR-platform rifles on our wall configured either as featureless rifles or with fixed magazines. The default minimum age to purchase any firearm from a dealer in California is 21, but buyers between 18 and 20 may be eligible to purchase certain long guns if they have a valid California hunting license. Other exemptions exist for active law enforcement and military.

Every long gun on our wall is configured to meet California's requirements, and our staff can walk you through what's legal, what isn't, and why. For more detail on common questions about California long gun regulations, visit our FAQ page, or give us a call and we'll help you sort it out before you come in.
