Whether you're buying your first gun or just want a stronger foundation before you do, this two-hour class covers what every new gun owner in California needs to know before they own or carry a firearm. You'll learn directly from our DOJ-certified staff in a hands-on classroom setting, and you'll leave with your Firearm Safety Certificate, which is required before you can purchase a firearm in this state, so the class pays for itself as a required step rather than an optional add-on. The class costs $175, which includes your Firearm Safety Certificate exam and the certificate card itself once you pass. Each session runs two hours and is limited to sixteen participants, which keeps the group small enough that our instructors can give everyone real attention during the hands-on portions rather than rushing through a lecture.

What You'll Learn

This class walks through how firearms work across handguns, rifles, and shotguns, along with the different types of ammunition you'll encounter and the safe handling fundamentals you'll rely on every single time you pick up a gun. We also cover California's specific laws on transporting and storing firearms in detail, so by the time you leave you know exactly what's required to stay compliant rather than guessing at the rules once you're already a gun owner.

By the end of the session you will have earned your Firearm Safety Certificate, which is required for any firearm purchase in California and stays valid for five years once issued. To receive it you'll need to bring a valid California driver's license or state identification card and be at least eighteen years old on the day of class, so make sure to have that ready when you arrive.

Cancellations made at least 48 hours before your scheduled class will receive a full refund with no questions asked. Cancellations made inside that 48 hour window will receive 50% store credit that can be put toward a future class. No shows are not eligible for a refund or credit of any kind. If your plans change, you're always welcome to transfer your registration to a different date, time, or even another person, and there's no deadline for making that kind of transfer as long as it happens before your original class begins.
